Total raised in APAC this week: $450m across 21 disclosed rounds.

Key takeaways

  • APAC funding rounds this week totalled roughly $450m across 21 disclosed deals, with North Asia taking about $354m of it while the West was still waking up.

  • The headline deal was HiDream.ai's RMB 1.5bn (about $221m) Series C, a Chinese AI round deliberately marketed to the world in English.

  • India led on volume with about 14 rounds but only $90m, its quietest week by value in a month.

  • The surprise: cricketer Virat Kohli and his brother took a combined 28% equity stake in fitness chain Vault, an enormous position for a celebrity strategic deal.

What did the APAC funding week look like?

APAC moves while the West sleeps, and this week the region booked roughly $450m across 21 disclosed rounds before US and European weekly tallies had even closed. The biggest deal of the week, HiDream.ai's $221m Series C, hit the wires at 8:42pm Beijing time on Monday and had syndicated across a dozen APAC outlets before New York opened.

The shape of the week: North Asia dominated on value, India dominated on volume, and Southeast Asia was unusually quiet after June's four-year high of $4.22bn tracked by DealStreetAsia. We keep the running regional picture in our APAC funding roundup.

Which was the biggest round this week?

HiDream.ai, the Beijing omni-modal foundation model company, raised RMB 1.5bn, about $221m, in a Series C co-led by the National Social Security Fund's Sichuan Revitalization Fund, ICBC Capital, Hongyi AM and Dunhong Capital. The company builds AI models and agents for content, marketing and film production, and claims users in over 100 countries. Sources: Media OutReach, KrAsia.

The announcement teardown: no exclusive, no domestic-first scoop. HiDream self-issued an English-language release on the Media OutReach newswire, datelined Beijing, with a parallel Traditional Chinese version, and let it syndicate verbatim from Manila to the Gulf. That is the opposite of the usual Chinese playbook of a 36Kr domestic scoop, and it signals a company selling globally. Other choices worth noting: unicorn status was claimed with no valuation figure disclosed, velocity was the frame, more than RMB 2.1bn raised in three months across three rounds, state-linked capital was emphasised rather than hidden, and the release piggybacked on its WAIC 2026 launch of the vivago R1 creative agent plus a third-party benchmark leaderboard as validation. Founder Mei Tao supplied an AGI-flavoured quote; no personal social post surfaced.

The other big rounds this week

  • CLAS, about $84m (¥13.8bn). Panasonic Kurashi Visionary Fund, the Panasonic and SBI Investment vehicle, led an equity-plus-debt package with three Japanese regional banks. The Tokyo furniture and appliance subscription service has over 270,000 members. Announced domestically via PR Times, covered by The Bridge; the equity-debt split was not disclosed.

  • Arboreal Bioinnovations, about $24m (₹230 crore) Series A. Edelweiss's EAAA and Omnivore co-led, with Zerodha's Rainmatter. The Lucknow company makes speciality food and nutraceutical ingredients for over 1,100 B2B customers. India's biggest round of the week, from a Tier II city. Sources: Entrackr, YourStory.

  • China's RMB 100m club. Three near-identical RMB 100m (about $14.8m) rounds surfaced via KrAsia's digest of 36Kr reporting: T-chef Tech (commercial cooking robots, led by China Merchants Venture), Design Order (AI agents generating 3D hardware designs) and Motion Brain (on-device robot movement models). All three follow the classic domestic-scoop route, no English PR at all.

  • Apna Mart, about $12.7m (₹120 crore) Series C. Accel India and Fundamentum co-led with Peak XV, at roughly double the prior valuation, for franchise-led omnichannel grocery in Tier II and III India. Source: StartupTalky.

  • Sid's Farm, about $8.4m (₹81 crore) pre-Series B. Omnivore, Dodla Dairy and Next Bharat Ventures backed the Hyderabad D2C dairy brand working with over 5,000 farmers. Source: StartupTalky.

Where is APAC capital flowing?

The regional split on APAC funding rounds this week: North Asia took about $354m across 7 disclosed rounds, China roughly $280m, Japan $84m, Korea $4.1m, with HiDream.ai alone accounting for nearly half the region's total. India logged around 14 rounds worth about $90m, down from $200m and $281m in the two prior weeks per Inc42. Southeast Asia disclosed just $5.5m, Bundle's pre-seed, with Temasek-linked Temus's investment in Manila's Thinking Machines undisclosed (DealStreetAsia). ANZ recorded no large in-window rounds.

Thematically, the money went to AI you can touch: cooking robots, robot motion models, 3D design agents and content models took most of China's cheques, while India's capital went to the physical economy, food ingredients, groceries, dairy and housing finance. Founders entering the region should start with our playbook on cracking APAC via the Singapore launchpad, and compare this week's US funding picture for the contrast.

Notable APAC launches this week

  • Rapido took Ownly national. The Indian ride-hailing giant integrated its zero-commission food delivery service into its main app, roughly 20,000 restaurants on a flat-fee model aimed straight at Swiggy and Zomato. Source: Business Standard.

  • HiDream.ai unveiled vivago R1 at WAIC 2026, a long-form video generation and editing creative agent, timed to land with its Series C news. Source: Media OutReach.

  • Anicut Capital launched the Grand Anicut Seed Fund, targeting ₹175 crore plus a ₹75 crore greenshoe for early-stage Indian startups. Source: StartupTalky.

What should founders raising soon do this week?

  • Match your announcement language to your market map. HiDream went English-first because it sells in 100 countries; T-chef and Motion Brain stayed domestic because their buyers are. Neither is wrong, mixing them is.

  • Time the announcement for your region's news cycle, not Silicon Valley's. An 8:42pm Beijing wire drop owned the APAC morning before the US woke up.

  • Stack a product launch on the raise. HiDream's vivago R1 launch at WAIC gave outlets a product story and a funding story in one release.

  • Velocity framing works. RMB 2.1bn in three months was the line every outlet repeated. If you have raised fast, say so explicitly.
