Total raised in the EU this week: €0.6bn across 11 disclosed rounds.
One Cambridge startup dominated the European funding rounds this week. CuspAI's $450m Series B was roughly 66% of everything disclosed across the continent, and it arrived wrapped in one of the sharpest coordinated launches we have seen this year. Here is the full week, who else raised, and what the CuspAI rollout teaches anyone announcing soon.
Key takeaways
European startups raised about €600m across 11 disclosed rounds in the trailing 7 days, heavily concentrated at the top.
The headline deal was CuspAI's $450m Series B at a $2.6bn valuation, co-led by Kleiner Perkins and NEA with Jeff Bezos participating, roughly a 5x valuation jump in nine months.
The biggest surprise: Humanoid became Europe's first pure-play humanoid robotics unicorn with a $152m Series A at $1.35bn, backed by Bosch and Schaeffler.
UK vs continent split: the UK took roughly 89% of disclosed capital (~€531m), but Germany led the continent with five rounds worth about €53m.
Defence capital kept building: Airbus anchored the new €500m E2D fund, which made its first investment this week.
What did the EU funding week look like?
Top-heavy and UK-led. Of the roughly €600m disclosed, CuspAI and Humanoid together were about 88%. Beneath them, the European funding rounds this week were a steady drumbeat of German seed and Series A activity: telli ($15m seed, Redalpine), Passionfroot ($15m Series A, Insight Partners), kausable (€12m seed) and deltaVision (€10.2m) all announced within three days of each other.
The sector story mirrors the US: capital moving into materials, robotics, space and defence, with AI as the layer underneath rather than the product itself. For the month-level view, see the biggest EU funding rounds this month.
Which was the biggest round this week?
CuspAI, at $450m (about €395m). The Cambridge-based agentic AI materials discovery company raised its Series B at a $2.6bn post-money valuation, up from roughly $520m in September 2025. Kleiner Perkins and NEA co-led, with Bezos Expeditions, Glade Brook, Lux Capital, AMD Ventures and the UK government's Sovereign AI Venture Fund participating. The figure is confirmed by Sifted, tech.eu and Bloomberg.
The announcement teardown. This was a masterclass in the rumour-then-confirmation arc. Sifted had earlier trailed a "$200m at unicorn valuation" rumour, which set the market's expectations low. The confirmed round then beat the rumour on every number. On the day, CuspAI ran a tightly embargoed reveal with Bloomberg as the anchor exclusive, headlined on the Bezos angle, paired with simultaneous wire distribution and same-day trade pickup. Crucially, the funding news shipped alongside a product-scale announcement: the AI Materials Foundry, a 45-plus member coalition including Nvidia, Meta FAIR, Samsung, Hyundai and Applied Materials. The raise proved momentum; the Foundry proved substance. Two stories, one embargo, and the valuation jump became a supporting detail rather than the whole story.
The other big rounds this week
Humanoid, $152m Series A at $1.35bn. The London industrial humanoid robotics firm became Europe's first pure-play humanoid unicorn, led by Prime Movers Lab with Bosch and Schaeffler participating and Bosch confirmed as a manufacturing partner (Forbes, tech.eu). The announcement led with the "first in Europe" superlative and a strategic-partner proof point, exactly the right two ingredients.
telli, $15m seed. The Berlin startup building AI agents for B2C customer operations raised from Redalpine, Cherry Ventures and Y Combinator, announced 23 July as a media exclusive with coordinated trade follow-up (tech.eu).
Passionfroot, $15m Series A. Insight Partners led the Berlin creator-marketing platform's round, with the CEO relocating to New York for the US push, a detail that gave the story a second angle (TechCrunch, PR Newswire).
kausable, €12m seed. UVC Partners and Entourage co-led the Heidelberg deep-tech building reasoning-first AI that adapts without retraining (tech.eu).
deltaVision, €10.2m. The Munich maker of fluidic systems for spacecraft and in-orbit refuelling raised its first round while already profitable with 125 staff, led by KT Ventures and Valemount (tech.eu). "Profitable space company" is a rare and effective hook.
Brenus Pharma, €11m Series A extension. The Lyon immuno-oncology biotech extended its Series A to €38m total (EU-Startups).
Where is EU capital flowing?
Geographically, the UK took about €531m of the week, roughly 89% of disclosed capital, almost entirely from CuspAI and Humanoid. Germany was the clear continental leader with about €53m across five rounds, France second with Brenus plus Alta Ares (amount undisclosed). By theme, materials AI, robotics, space and defence dominated, and the defence capital stack deepened: Airbus anchored the new €500m E2D European defence tech fund, which wrote its first cheque into France's Alta Ares this week (tech.eu).
Notable pattern in the European funding rounds this week: the UK government's Sovereign AI Venture Fund sat inside the CuspAI syndicate alongside Bezos and AMD. State capital is now co-investing at frontier valuations, not just grant-making.
Notable EU launches this week
CuspAI's AI Materials Foundry. A 45-plus organisation coalition with Nvidia compute, Meta FAIR's UMA model and exclusive AI-training rights to the Cambridge Structural Database, launched alongside the raise (HPCwire).
E2D defence tech fund. The €500m Franco-German fund unveiled at Farnborough, managed by AVP and Earlybird with Airbus Defence and Space as anchor LP (Airbus).
Microagi on Google Cloud and NVIDIA Blackwell. The Munich embodied-AI startup, which already powers Unitree and UBTECH, announced it will train physical AI models on GB300 infrastructure (tech.eu).
What should founders raising soon do this week?
First, control the expectations curve. CuspAI let a lower rumour circulate, then beat it. If a leak is coming anyway, make sure the confirmed story clears the bar the leak sets.
Second, anchor with one exclusive, then wire. Bloomberg carried the CuspAI reveal; the wire and trades amplified. An anchor outlet gives the story authority that a wire-only blast lacks.
Third, ship substance with the raise. The Materials Foundry coalition turned a funding story into an industry story. Humanoid did the same with Bosch as a manufacturing partner.
Fourth, if you are a European company planning a US move like Passionfroot, treat the relocation itself as news. Our playbook on how European startups win US press covers exactly this, and the biggest US funding rounds this month shows what you are competing against for attention.
The rest of the week's top rounds
Aampere (Germany), €4.2m, used-EV resale platform, led by Trind Ventures (EU-Startups)
Cascade (UK), $3.5m seed, AI pursuit platform for construction, led by a16z Speedrun (TechCrunch)
Immitra Bio (Switzerland), €2.58m pre-seed, gene editing, Backbone Ventures and others (TechStartups)
Nernst Electric (Ireland), €1.7m seed, on-site oxygen generation, Blue Revolution Fund (EU-Startups)
Sowilo (Iceland), pre-seed, amount undisclosed, AI fashion product intelligence (tech.eu)
Alta Ares (France), amount undisclosed, first cheque from the E2D fund (tech.eu)
